Individualised Treatments

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) does not classify any disease under a fixed classification. Unlike western medicine, TCM does not see your condition as being the same as other people. Each patient is treated on an individual basis. It is possible that ten people could present with 'Back Pain' and all have different treatments. Each treatment is individualised for the client at the time of consultation. The aim of the treatments is to return the body to homeostasis.

An initial consultation will have a full health assessment taking into account past medical history, family medical history and also other accompanying signs and symptoms. From this the your individual treatment regime will be discussed. This will comprise of a balance of the therapies listed below.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the modalities covered by the wider umbrella of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). An acupuncturist uses fine hair like single use pre sterilised needles inserted into specific points along the body’s meridians. These meridians flow both at a superficial level nourishing the muscles and other superficial tissues, and also go through to the deep level where they nourish the internal organs. This is why acupuncture can treat a wide variety of disorders from muscle pain & sports injuries to more complicated syndromes.

These needles are inserted to correct the balance of the body’s vital energy (known as Qi) and are manipulated so that you feel a sensation. No this sensation isn’t painful. Sometimes these needles are connected with an electro machine to enhance the effect of the needles. This allows the body to come back into balance and heal itself naturally

Chinese Herbs

Chinese Herbs are sometime given as well as the acupuncture. These can be given for both acute situations and more chronic problems and for a wide variety of conditions. The herbs used are of the highest quality and have strict guidelines in there production. These herbs come in easy to take capsules. Depending on your condition one bottle can last up to 3 weeks

In addition to providing effective treatment for a wide range of health disorders, Chinese herbal medicine may also be used to assist with general health maintenance and disease prevention. By increasing and boosting normal body systems such as, immune and endocrine, general well being is achieved.

Massage

Oriental Massage (Tuina) has the same philosophy as the acupuncture; by promoting the flow of energy through the body, muscle pain and stiffness is greatly reduced. Tuina also has the ability to promote the lymphatic system and venous return by acting like a pump to get rid of the toxins in the muscles such as lactic acid. When this happens the “fresh blood” can get into the tissues and regenerate the cells with oxygen. Plus it’s a great way to relax as well!!!

Chinese Dietary Advice

This is rarely given on its own and will be more of a treatment regime, in combination with the Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs. The dietary advice given will include foods to avoid and foods to include helping back up the treatment given. For example if you have a productive cough, avoid foods such as dairy, bananas and peanut butter as they tend to make the phlegm worse.

Cupping

This is where glass or plastic cups are placed on the skin, with a vacuum to suck out the toxins to the superficial layer, where the body can deal them more effectively. Like the Massage this is another way of stimulating the lymphatic system. This treatment is good for tight neck and shoulders and also for the very start of a cold or flu.
